Coffee, Cake, Debate – The Third Mind
Welcome to the first Coffee, Cake, debate of 2014! As last year, the fabulous Ed Wakefield is leading the way. Join us on the 10th at Home is Where.. Cafe/Deli
Here’s what Mr. Wakefield has to say:
‘The Third Mind is a seminal book from beat authour William Burroughs and experimental painter, poet and sound artist Brion Gysin. Published in 1978 it is a literary essay and writing collection showcasing the cut up technique. Burroughs and Gysin made it popular in the 1950s and 60s; the lovely people at HFWAS want to make it popular NOW!
Cut-ups involves taking texts, cutting the pages, and then rearranging and combining the pieces to form new narratives. Chance, experimentation and a playful approach will reveal surprising results.
Bring along an old magazine or newspaper, a Mills & Boone, an instruction manual, a bible, a driving instruction book, a National Geographic – anything you don’t mind cutting to ribbons! Don’t forget to bring scissors and sellotape.’
