Serendipity
What is performance? When did it start? What is serendipity?
As I look out of my window into my garden I see true beauty. Years before it would have started as a blank canvas. Now after 30 years of growth, shaping and weather it must have changed. But the fundamentals are still the same. There are still trees that produce new colours that dash the sky. There are flowers growing in the grass where they were never meant to go. A pheasant passes and chooses where they stop to bask in the sun.
I did not create these happening, and no one could have planned this to such a fine degree.
Throughout my life I have seen art. Whether it is art or my interpretation of art will always be subjective, but to me it is art.
On May Digbeth First Friday 2015, Home for Waifs and Strays explored the moment when performance began for co-director Aleks Wojtulewicz. The work looks at when performance started culturally and how those moments affected many people.
