Live Art Cinema – Open Call
Home For Waifs and Strays are joining forces with Magic Cinema to put on an event that breaks down the boundaries between performance and film.
We are looking for short performances designed for film, live art incorporating film, cinematic performances, performance documentation, performance in dialogue with film, and any other live art/film mutation you can conceive.
In the spirit of Magic Cinema, which is a DIY film event that gives local film makers a chance to show their work and be inspired by the work of others, we are essentially doing the same thing but broadening it out to Live Art. Magic Cinema have an open reel policy which means they will show any film they are given as long as it’s under 10 minutes and the film-maker comes along to present it. This format doesn’t quite work for live art as there may be set up required, some performances are durational (although some may fit within 10 minutes), and more often than not the artist is the performer. So to stay as close to this policy as possible whilst incorporating live art we ask you to submit an online application form so we can best curate the event. In order to show the work in the best way (and dependant on number of applications) it might not be possible to accept all works submitted.
